Michael is a twenty-eight year old musician in Portland, Oregon. Born in 1981 to a small family in Buffalo, NY, he grew up playing band instruments such as the French horn and saxophone. From a very young age, Michael has been passionate about all types of music.

About ten years ago, he received a 1974 Yamaha FG-340 from a good friend. The guitar was a surprise gift that showed up on the porch in the form of a car radiator box. For about two years, the guitar laid untouched. At the age of twenty-one, Michael grew confident and learned how to play his “radiator box” guitar. The FG-340 has officially been retired due to autographs rubbing off during play, and it has been "replaced" by an older, lighter 1969 Yamaha FG-140.

Michael’s influences are many but mostly based on his experiences and time spent in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He claims his most notable influence is JJ Cale, whose sound has benefited popular music for the last thirty to forty years. Other influences that have helped inspire Michael are his mentor, Rocky Frisco, the Beatles, early Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, and other folk-rock artists of the 60’s and 70’s.

Michael has performed at several bars and coffee shops in Florida, Oklahoma and Oregon. In 2010, he formed his first band whose lineup currently consists of Ben Michalak on Fender Strat/banjo/vocals.

More a songwriter than performer, his lyrics are based on personal experience, heartache, love, and wonder. People have described his sound as "Dylan-esque" whereas others compare aspects of his sound to Donovan and Neil Young. While Michael describes himself as being “less of a performer,” he takes great pride in his passion for songwriting, and you can find him at an open mic here or there or as an opening act for others.
